Jessy, our Teagasc Farm Safety Mascot, was originally developed in 2007 by the late Lily Nolan of Teagasc and the HSA.  The storyline in the book follows a dog called Jessy and her three puppies as they encounter various dangers on the farm. We would encourage all families to read the book with their children. Read 'Stay Safe on the farm with Jessy' here.

How do I enter?

Jessy has three categories for prizes from which there will be an overall winner and a runner up.

These categories are:

  • Junior & Senior Infants
  • 1st - 3rd Class
  • 4th - 6th Class

Junior & Senior Infants Category

Farm safety is very important, and safety signs help us stay safe while on the farm. We want you to create colourful pictures of farm safety signs that can warn people about things like tractors, animals or other farm dangers. Your picture should be bright and clear, showing how these signs can help everyone stay safe while enjoying time on the farm. Use your favourite colours, shapes, and patterns to make your signs easy to see and understand! Jessy can’t wait to see your safety signs come to life!

Junior category resources

1st - 3rd Class Category

Farms are home to many different animals, and it’s important to remember how to stay safe around them. Jessy wants you to create a colourful and creative picture that shows how to be safe around farm animals. You could show someone feeding the animals carefully, wearing proper gear, or following safety signs. Use your imagination to think about different farm situations and how safety can be part of every day on the farm. Make sure your picture is clear and fun, while also teaching others about how to stay safe with animals! Jessy can’t wait to see your amazing artwork!

4th - 6th Class Category

Machinery like tractors, harvesters, and other equipment can be very helpful on the farm, but we need to stay safe around them. Your task is to illustrate a scene where farm machinery is being used safely and come up with a catchy slogan that fits your artwork. It could be something like "Stay Alert, Stay Safe". Your artwork and slogan should be clear and impactful and teach other children how to be safe around farm machinery when it is being used on the farm. We can’t wait to see your ideas come to life!
